5 Reasons to Wear a Seatbelt

Whether you’re a driver or a passenger, it’s important to buckle up at all times to stay safe. We hear admonishments against not wearing seatbelts all the time. But seldom hear about all the benefits of wearing a seatbelt. Aside from it being the law in many states in the United States, wearing a seatbelt comes with a host of benefits. Up until the 1950s, cars were not typically made with seatbelts, so we mustn’t take this vital safety feature for granted. Here are five reasons to wear your seatbelt every time you get into a car.

One: It Can Save Your Life

Obviously, seatbelts are installed in every car and are mandated by traffic laws for a reason. That reason is that wearing a seatbelt is proven to save lives. When people who are wearing seatbelts are in car accidents, it’s far more likely that they will not suffer a fatality than if they were not wearing a seatbelt.

Two: It Prevents Injuries

Similar to seatbelts preventing death, seatbelts also prevent injury. Seatbelts can keep you safe from traumatic brain injury, whiplash, broken bones or fractured bones, and spinal cord injury.

Three: Avoid an Expensive Ticket

As previously stated, driving or riding without a seatbelt is illegal in most states. If a traffic police officer catches you without a seatbelt fastened, you could be subject to an expensive ticket. That means that wearing a seatbelt can save you money in the long run.

Four: Passengers in the Back Avoid Projection

It’s important to know that wearing seatbelts is not just important in the front seats. It is also important to wear seatbelts when you or your passengers are in the backseat. By wearing a seatbelt in the backseat, you can avoid being projected forward if you are in a collision.

Five: Not Wearing a Seatbelt May Affect Your Insurance

If you are in an accident without wearing a seatbelt and your police report or insurance claim includes this information. There is a chance you will not receive any money from your insurance for some damages. Many insurance companies consider wearing a seatbelt to be a reasonable way to prevent damage. So if you forgo it, they may forgo some coverage.
